Leaving Rotorua and the North Island, we hopped (ok, we flew) down to Queenstown on the South Island, touching down briefly in Christchurch on the way.  Queenstown is situated on the shore of a very large, a very beautiful and a very cold lake.  We could have used some of the thermal heat from Rotorua.  Even with the cold, we had a lot of fun in Queenstown.   May cleaned out the local Casino, everbody either para-glided or luged their way down the mountain, and we got a taste of what clean living is all about.

We drove down and did an overnite at Te Anua to see the Glowworm Grotto and take a daytrip down to Milford Sound.  The Glowworms were cool (literally) and Milford Sound was awesome.  At the end of our daytrip we caught a fantastic flight back to Queenstown over some of the most rugged scenery you can imagine.

A nice stop overlooking Queenstown. This is Lake Wakatipu, a huge freshwater lake.

The road we followed wound around & up & down these mountains. After awhile it numbs your senses.

This is evidently the only seal that New Zealand owns. It was cute tho.

Avalanche warnings? In July?

We finally make Milford Sound. Same mountains, just add water. Awesome scale.
